8 weeks!

So is he 8 weeks or 2 months? Someone told me to go by weeks and months. What? So every Thursday he turns a new week and on the 12th of each month he turns a new month? What's the difference? I don't know!

8 week stats:
Sleeping: On the night he turned 6 weeks he slept 6 hours and has slept as much as 7 hours (once). But he has gone back and forth to sleeping 3 or 4 hours too. I notice if I drink caffeine he is more restless and has a harder time falling asleep at night, even though I drink maybe one cup and I drink it in the morning. This is a problem because I LOVE me some Starbucks. So I've been getting decaf cinnamon dolce lattes if I happen to drive past a Starbucks drive-thru. We tried having him sleep in the crib and he slept 4 hours but like I said before its hard when our master bedroom is on a different floor than his room. So I put him back in our room. This week my mission is to try the crib again. He will take cat naps throughout the day and occasionally takes a longer afternoon nap. But lately if I put him down when he is sleeping he cries. This makes it very hard for this Mommy to get anything done!
Eating: During the day he nurses about every 2 hours and still clusters at night (clustering is when babies eat every hour to prepare for a long sleep). We have been giving him one bottle of formula at night since about day 4 to give me a break and make him full. He is getting less fussy at night but if I put him down he cries so we hold him or feed him from about 6:00 until he goes down for the night which is about 10:30.  This is tough but I know I'm going to miss these days when he's older.
Milestones: Baby M has been smiling, cooing, and laughing more and more every day. He is the happiest in the morning as most babies are. It just melts my heart when I hear him coo or see him smile. He will often smile, laugh, and even cry while he's asleep. I wonder what he's thinking or dreaming or if babies even do that. He has found his hand and will suck/chew on it every now and then, mostly when he's getting hungry. He loves to sit in his swing after he's been fed and watch his mobile and listen to music. However, if he is already screaming the swing does not calm him down. He also loves his rock n play and since that is downstairs he will sit in it while we are in the kitchen cooking or eating. He also LOVES his changing table. If he is fussy and we put him on his changing table 90% of the time he stops crying and just looks around.

Swing nap!

He loves to sit with his feet crossed and see that raised big toe? That's exactly what Rob does with his big toe. He definitely has Robs feet!

This is what we've been up to since my last post:
Watching basketball!

I attempted to make stepping stones for the grandparents' gardens. I am not a crafty person and I don't pretend to be. I thought they looked ok before I put them in the oven to bake them.

But when I took them out of the oven they looked like this and I wasn't thrilled with the way they came out. Also I wanted to write his name and it was really hard to write anything. I didn't even like how the 2014 came out but I kept it there.

A couple "firsts"
First baby shower- So my co-workers were throwing a baby shower for the massage therapist at our school. Yes our school has a massage therapist. Anyways I wanted to go to get out of the house and she so kindly came to my shower. So I get us both ready and he starts screaming as we leave the house and cries most of the ride there. I am very frazzled when I get there and EVERYONE wants to hold him. I was nervous about this because of all the germs but what can you do? I made a bottle and a co-worker fed him. Then he spit up a good amount on her. The shower starts and the school accountant is holding him. She feels and hears a big blow out in his diaper and I pick him up and can see all the poop coming through his outfit. This has never happened before. Not at home, not in public. Therefore I did not plan for it or even think about it happening. I find a room to change him in and he proceeds to pee all over the wall! Two other co-workers are helping me. One of them is searching frantically through my diaper bag for another outfit. The only thing I had were a pair of sock and 2 hats. Of course I forgot to pack extra clothes! I was mortified! It was 30 degrees outside, what was I supposed to do? So someone found an adult cardigan we wrapped around him and a couple people searched their cars for outfits from their own children. Someone else offered to go across the street to buy him an outfit. Another co-worker found an outfit of her daughters that was made for summer! I thought, well its better than nothing so I put it on him. It was very hilarious! Lesson learned to pack extra clothes!

A girl summer outfit and soccer socks. Poor baby!

First trip to a restaurant as a family- Before baby M came along our Friday night tradition was to go out to eat. We hadn't done this since before he was born. We thought if he started crying we would give him a bottle or worst case scenario get our food to go. Rob was so nervous. He cried the whole 10 minutes in the car to the restaurant but once we got there he fell right to sleep. We even had a 10 minute wait! As soon as we were finished eating he woke up and started getting fussy but it was time to go so it worked out perfect!

First time at Church- The same weekend we went to our first restaurant we decided to go to church for the first time too! We were both nervous about him crying. We got there right when Mass started and it was packed! I hadn't been to church in so long! There were no seats and we didn't want to bother anyone to move over so we went straight to the cry room and stayed there the whole time. There was a paper that said, "This room is not to be used the entire Mass. Its purpose is to quiet children and then go back to your seat." So Rob and I felt guilty the entire time we were in there but we didn't want to keep going in and out. He did cry a couple times but once I picked him up and rocked him he went to sleep. Next time we are going to get there earlier and get a seat.

First play date! When I first heard the word play date years ago I thought what is that? Then I realized it's just when kids get together and play. I did that all the time growing up but we didn't call it play dates. Now here I am calling it that! My friend Molly has two adorable kids, Adelyn who is 2 and Jacob who is 8 months. Since we had been cooped up in the house I thought it would be fun to visit them. Jacob was in love with M! He kept trying to play with him, I.e. Pull his hair, lean on him, etc. it was so cute! Addy was so sweet with M and kept calling him Baby Marsh-our. Adorable! With three little ones it was definitely more difficult to have an adult conversation.
Jacob and M

Look at those cute kids!

I didn't realize that when you have a baby every time they experience their "first" time doing something it would be such a big deal. Well maybe its not to everyone but it is to me. I've documented all of his "firsts" and he is only 8 weeks! I can't imagine when he says his first word or takes his first step.

So Facebook celebrated 10 years (I joined 9 years ago) and they made a video for each persons profile that highlights their time on Facebook. It made me cry! I think because of the music but also because there are so many memories highlighted in just 1 minute. I watched it like 4 times. It randomly chose pictures and Missy was in 3 of them which was sad but made me happy too. It's so great that those memories will always be in my heart. I just wish she was still here to make more memories. Here's the video link:
